The spokesperson of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), Ado 1 Alex King Nartey, has revealed that the management of the Word in Action Church at Old Bortianor in the Ga South Municipality of the Greater Accra Region did not acquire the requisite permit to put up the three-storey building that collapsed yesterday morning.
According to him, the church was not given approval by the Municipal Assembly to build that kind of structure.
“In our discussion with the Municipal Assemblies, it came to light that the church didn’t have the requisite permit to have this building,” he said.
He further explained that the permit that was given to them initially by the Assembly, could not allow them to put up that kind of building.
“They had an initial permit that was granted to them but per the checks of the Municipal Assemblies, they realized that the church was building something other than the plan they had brought earlier that was approved, so their permit was revoked so as it stands now, they don’t even have a permit for the building and then the extension they were doing,” he added.
