The imminent operationalization of the renovated Kumasi Int'l Airport has caught the attention of Africa's biggest carrier, Ethiopian Airlines.
The Addis Ababa-based airline, which is constantly looking to deepen connectivity on the continent in line with its vision, has identified Kumasi as the second airport it possibly can operate direct flights to or create a hub to serve the northern half of the country.
Mr. Hailemelekot Mamo, Vice President of Ethiopian Airlines Group in-charge of ET Holiday, Digital Sales and Global Customer
about Interaction, w hen asked the possibility of servicing the Kumasi Airport directly and/or establishing a hub at the Ashanti regional
capital, said ; "Ethiopian is a Pan- African airline, that has been our aim and will be our aim, connecting Africa to the rest of the world. We are very happy you have raised this question and we will put it on our radar in the future.
Most definitely! But it is a matter of time and planning and strategic thinking that we need to put in place. We work with in all African governments to work out a way of connecting our colleagues within Africa to the rest of the world.
These hubs we talk about are hubs that have been constructed with the help of governments and PPP. In future, if there is a possibility, we will put it [establishing a hub in
Kumasi] in our strategic plan"
