The headmaster of Cape Coast-based all-male senior high school, St. Augustine College in the Central Region, Henry Arthur-Gyan has employed respective old student year-groups of the school to emulate the footstep of the 1986 year-group over their benevolent gesture to the school.
He charged respective year-groups of the college to identify the needs of the school and fix them as demonstrated by the 86 year-group.
Mr. Arthur-Gyan made this clarion call following a donation exercise carried out by the college's 1986 batch on Saturday, May 20, 2023, upon realizing the school's challenge in clearing weeds, particularly during rainy seasons.
Donated items include three (3) lawnmowers, two (2) projectors, and five (5) laptops estimated to cost around GH¢100,000.
The headmaster noted to Sompa TV/FM's Eric Annan that donated items, most especially the lawnmowers will go a long way in keeping the school evergreen as wanted and promised to keep all donated items in good use.
Prof. Sebastian Eliason, Global President for the St. Augustine's 86 year-group who doubles as the Dean for the School of Medical Sciences and the Head of the Paediatric Department at the University of Cape Coast (UCC) recounted the challenges students together with workers of the school usually go through in weeding the compound, hence the need in donating lawnmowers in addition to the presented items.
The former Greater Accra Regional Hospital (Formerly, Ridge Hospital) Gynecologist also hinted that the year-group will see to it if they can aid in the provision of fuel to power the donated mowers into work.
Affectionately touted as Augusco, St. Augustine's stands as one of Ghana's prestigious second cycle institutions, established in the year 1930 having pride itself as twice champions of the National Maths and Science Quiz (NMSQ) both in 2007 and 2019 respectively, recently earmarked its 93rd anniversary in March.
