Communications consultant and Director of UpGirl Initiative Ghana, Ms Kate Addo has challenged adolescent youth to seek knowledge and guidance on issues of reproductive health during their early stage of adolescents.
Speaking to students within the Mamprobri and Chorkor environs, suburbs of Accra at a public interactive session with the students, Ms Addo challenged the youth to be self-cautious and disciplined in all aspects of their social engagement. Highlighting the relevance of self-preservation, abstinence and focusing on the future.
“As adolescents, you might be persuaded from different angles to make the wrong decision, but it is up to you to remain focused and to ask questions to safeguard your future”
This year’s event is in commemoration of the 2023 World Menstrual Hygiene Day. The event brought together medical and social practitioners to engage and educate girls within the community on proper menstrual hygiene and the need to practice abstinence.
Ms Addo further called for a collaborative role and responsibility on the part of parents, teachers as well as the youth to ensure best practices were adhered to during the menstrual period of women.
“It should be a collaborative effort for ladies to understand the need for self-hygiene and even become advocates for their peers and this could only be achieved if all stakeholders play their respective roles” she added.
UpGirl Initiative is a subsidiary of Duo Concept Foundation. UpGirl Initiative mainly focuses on the progress of the Ghanaian girl child in the area of education, empowerment and social advancement.
