Renowned heart surgeon and former Minister of Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation, Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, has given a full account of what ensued between him and the Office of the Special Prosecutor which led to his arrest and subsequent bail.
According to him, he received a letter from the Office of the Special Prosecutor on 13th May that as the Chairman of the Inter-ministerial committee, they would like to interrogate him as part of an investigation into a corruption related saga.
“I thought it was related to my galamsey report so I went with my lawyer precisely to the OSP’s office which was on the 7th floor.
There, I was offered a seat. And directly seated in front of me was an officer. Later, the investigator walked up to me, placed his left arm on my shoulder and declared that I was under arrest.” He told Omanhene Yaw Adu Boakye.
“Surprisingly, I asked for reasons behind this bizarre arrest and he informed me there were no definitive charges but they were investigating a corruption and corruption related-activities in connection with the dissolved Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM) and Frimpong-Boateng’s involvement.” Dr. Frimpong narrated.
Professor Boateng said he informed the officers that all the documents related to the galamsey report have already been presented to the Chief of Staff and National Security but there were portions he could recall from the report to aid the said investigations.
“They asked me truckloads of questions. After two hours, I was asked to write a statement, which I did. But they mentioned that since I was under arrest, someone would have to bail me out after the session. Fortunately, my friend footed the bill on my behalf.”
“The officer added that they will call me if the need arises. So, they went to my friend’s abode to know where he lives.”
Dr. Frimpong Boateng has denied ever receiving and misappropriating any 365million cedis.
He was tight lipped about the alleged missing excavators since it was under investigation.
In the interview, the highly respectable surgeon confirmed that he has been coping well amidst all the controversies.
“Human beings are dangerous. I have seen a lot. However, I will diligently discharge my duties as it is required of me.” He concluded.
