Some media practitioners have urged the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo-Dampare, and the Police Service to engage with the media more frequently and to build better channels for information exchange.
They also urged the Police Service to improve Police presence, especially on weekends and at night.
They made this known when the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo-Dampare, paid a feedback-driven working visit to the offices of Citi FM/TV and Despite Media in Tesano and Abeka Junction in Accra on Wednesday, June 7, as part of the Police Administration’s efforts to deepen engagement with its stakeholders.
They commended the Police for the enhanced Police Visibility programme, and various road safety interventions and also acknowledged the significant reduction in incidents of robbery across the country.
The IGP, who was accompanied by some members of the Police Management Board and the Accra Regional Police Commander, interacted with the management of both media houses led by Mr. Samuel Atta Mensah for the Citi side and Dr. Fadda Dickson for Despite Media and requested for feedback on the performance of the Police Service and the general state of security, law and order in the country.
On their part, the officials of the two media houses, during their respective sessions, expressed their gratitude to the IGP and the Ghana Police Service for keeping the peace of the country.
In his response, the IGP acknowledged the gatekeeping role of the media in Ghana and assured that the Police is ever ready to collaborate with the media to deliver quality policing services to Ghanaians as the Ghana Police Service strives to become the best institution in the country and a reference point for the rest of Africa and beyond.
Officers who accompanied the IGP include COP/Mr. Paul Manly Awini, Director-General/NPD; COP/Ernest Kwabena Owusu, Director-General/Research and Planning; DCOP/ Mr. Okyere-Darko Asumadu, Director-General Technical (Ag.); DCOP/ Faustina A.K. Andoh Kwofie, Director-General/CID; and the Accra Regional Police Commander, COP/Dr. Saibu Pabi Gariba.
