Five people have been shot dead by the police at Bortianor, a suburb in the Greater Accra Region, following an anti-robbery and anti-landguard operation.
According to the police, on June 8, 2023, an operation targeting some suspects involved in robbery and landguard activities in the area was conducted, which led to the death of the five persons.
The police say upon approaching the community, the suspects opened fire from their hideout, prompting them to return fire.
A statement released by the police stated that “These individuals had been terrorizing residents and landowners in Bortianor and nearby communities.”
It added that some items recovered from the crime scene included ” one AK47 Assault rifle, 10 rounds of AK47 ammunition, one pump action gun with nine rounds of BB cartridges, two pistols with 10 rounds of 9mm ammunition, one unregistered Toyota Tacoma pickup, four motorbikes, three of which are unregistered, a knife and a pepper spray.”
Meanwhile the police added that they are actively pursuing the remaining suspects, some of whom are believed to have sustained gunshot injuries during the operation and urged residents of the Bortianor community, to promptly report any individuals with gunshot wounds who may be seeking medical treatment.
