The Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Andrew Amoako Asiamah, has directed the the Defence and Interior Committee as well as the the Constitutional, Legal, and Parliamentary Affairs, to look into the incident which happened at Bortianor on June 8, 2023, where the police killed five people suspected to be landguards.
This comes after the Member of Parliament for Bortianor-Ngleshie Amanfro Constituency, Sylvester Tetteh, and other members of parliament called for immediate probe into the matter.
Police on June 10, 2023, released a statement indicating that they had undertaken an anti-robbery and land guard operation in the area, killing five suspected landguards.
Meanwhile, making a statement on the floor of parliament, the member of parliament for Bortianor said reports from the families of the deceased discredits police allegations that the suspects were languards.
The Second Deputy Speaker however, charged the committee to by the end of June, submit their report to the house.
“We are making the referral to the committee of the Defence and Interior, and we are asking the leadership of the Constitutional and Parliamentary Affairs to also join the Defence and Interior Committee and report back by the end of this month so that parliament can take appropriate action,” he said.
