The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), on Monday July 3, 2023, hosted a group of international students from the Bavarian Elite Academy (BEA) to a landmark meeting aimed at sharing insights, experiences, and perspectives on GNPC operations and history while exploring challenges, solutions and areas of collaboration between Ghana and Germany.
Present at the meeting for GNPC were the Board Chairman of the Corporation, Freddie Blay, Deputy Chief Executive (DCE, Finance & Administration), Mr. Benjamin Kweku Acolatse and Prof. Kwesi Amponsah-Tawiah, General Manager, Human Resource & Administration, Dr. Kwame Baah-Nuakoh, General Manager, Strategy & Investment, and Dominic Eduah (PhD), Executive Director of the GNPC Foundation.
Others included Mr. Alex Kwarteng, General Manager, Projects, Mr. Ebenezer Apesegah, General Manager, Geosciences, Madam Adwoa Arthur, Deputy Manager, Legal, Madam Jennifer Boateng, Manager, Human Resource and Mr. Eric Pwadura, Acting Manager, Corporate Affairs.
Receiving the group, Mr. Acolatse, said the Corporation has, over the years, made giant strides in pursuing the energy goals of Ghana and continues to seek mutually beneficial partnerships and collaborations from across the world in its bid to becoming a stand-alone operator.
The meeting’s agenda included a series of presentations and interactive sessions, covering a wide range of topics including GNPC’s Sustainability and Corporate Social Investment mandate as well as its core operational goal of exploring hydrocarbons in Ghana’s Voltaian area.
The German Ambassador to Ghana and leader of the visiting delegation, H.E Daniel Krull, said the group are in Ghana as part of activities to mark BEA’s 25th Anniversary and will offer the students an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the economic, cultural, and social landscape of Ghana.
He said the group comprises of specially chosen and socially committed students from Bavaria’s universities who strive for personal development and are willing to take on responsibility in business and society.
“Considering the relationship between Ghana and Germany, they are here to understand the Oil & Gas industry – challenges and opportunities – to inform their assessment of the future capacity of both countries in promoting the development of this relationship,” he added.
According to Thomas Wellenhofer, the General Manager of BEA, the meeting seeks to not only comprehend the diverse array of opportunities and challenges present in the African continent but also to immerse themselves in the cultural richness and social dynamics of the region.
Mr. Freddie Blay said beyond her promising economic outlook, Ghana offers a healthy socio-political climate with the consolidation of its democratic credentials which makes it a standout destination for business.
