The Mfantseman Municipal Assembly in the Central Region after a swoop through the constituency has detained close to 150 goats and sheeps left to roam various streets in the municipality.
The exercise carried out by the assembly's Environmental Health Department seizes to foster a healthy environment for indigenes within the municipality.
The action undertaken in ten (10) communities within the municipality forms part of the municipal assembly's obligations in facilitating a hygienic environment in the constituency.
Eric Pizzass Mensah, the Municipal Environmental Health Officer for Mfantseman noted, the exercise was made manifest after series of announcement made to warn residents to cage their domestic animals.
He highlighted that the action by the Mfantseman Municipal Assembly appears not the first time the assembly has embarked on such project.
According to him, domestic animals such as goats, sheeps defecates anyhow in the streets when left on free range. An occurrence he identified doesn't promote a good mechanism for sanitation.
He said owners of the arrested animals will be fined a stipulated amount, accompanied with a firm warning not to allow their animals roam the streets before these animals will be released back to them.
The Environmental Health Officer remarked that if owners of the arrested animals refuses to come for their animals in two weeks time, will leave the assembly no choice than to sell them on a cheap price to interested buyers.
He uncovered some residents, especially suspected weed smokers to be attacking them whenever they go for their routine operation on these free range animals to sound a word of caution to such persons to desist from the act.
Finally, he advised residents to fence their domestic animals to promote a hygienic environment in the Mfantseman Municipality for all to live.
The exercise is said to be carried out every two weeks to ensure sanity at various communities within the municipality.
