Prof. David Teye Doku, a lecturer of epidemiology and public health who doubles as the Director at the Directorate of Research, Innovation and Consultancy at the University of Cape Coast (UCC) has attributed Ghana's persistent suffering to society's neglect in enforcing the country's laid down policies.
The professor highlighted that it beholds on the society to guarantee its people a conducive environment to reside in, devoid of health, financial and safety constraint through a proper enforcement of its social interventions.
He said this in a media engagement following his inaugural lecture themed "The Causes of the Causes: Is Society the Producer of its Own Health or ill-Health" at UCC's School of Medical Science (SMS) auditorium on Wednesday, July 12, 2023.
The lecturer outlaid his frustration on the unperturbedness in regulating galamsey activities which has resulted in injuring various water bodies in the country.
He opined that should agencies like the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) ensure a strict adherence to its respective policies, will systematically place treated patients at a much safer end not to be discharged back to the unfriendly atmosphere they contracted their cured diseases.
Prof. Doku in his address to Sompa News, bemoaned the salary structure offered a section of individuals in the country whose payment depicts as though they don't deserve a decent living.
He further appealed to various institutions across the country, including UCC to discard its criteria in offering help to needy students solely on the conditionality that such individual is brilliant.
According to him, a student being needy should be enough to warrant such person gain academic assistance, as the sort of situation such students often goes through hinder them in giving their best academically.
