The CEO of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) Dr. Okoe Boye, his deputy in charge of Administration and Human Resources, Dr. Mrs. Yaa Pokuaa Baiden, some Directors and staff from the Head Office and Regional Office paid a visit to the Upper West Regional Hospital in Wa and engaged with their staff as part of the working visit in the region.
NHIS boss dialogued with the staff and administrators of the hospital and acknowledged their efforts in providing healthcare to the people in the region. He emphasized that the regional hospital was a key stakeholder as it catered for majority of the NHIS members in the region.
He assured them that the NHIA is committed to providing prompt reimbursement of their claims and is working hard to maintain the 90-day window for claims payment which is the standard practice in health insurance management.
Dr. Okoe Boye revealed that the NHIA has paid over 1 billion cedis to health providers in 2023 alone to, clear outstanding claims up to January 2023. He further called on health providers to acknowledge the efforts of the Scheme and desist from surcharging nhis members whenever they sought healthcare. He added that, the practice causes disaffection for the Scheme.
Dr Okoe Boye added that he recognizes the hard work and dedication of the healthcare staff by emphasizing the importance of their roles in providing quality healthcare to the community.
He seized the opportunity to tour the facility where he interacted with patients at the emergency ward.
