The Nkoranza Fire Command in the Bono East region has educated the populace about the safest means to utilize electrical appliances in order to avoid fire disasters.
The P.R.O of Nkoranza Fire Command, Sub officer Thomas Goer advised against connecting multiple gadgets to a single extension board- explaining that each extension board has its unique strength which must not be abused.
"People should watch and avoid connecting standing fans, Wufer, Tv, radio, among other gadgets to an extension board at the same time." he said.
Mr. Thomas Goer elaborated that if there is only one extension board, one gadget should be plugged in one at a time.
"This will help prevent explosions and avoidable fires" he told Sompa FM's morning show host, Owoahene Acheampong.
Speaking about whether or not to connect a fridge to an extension board, the safety officer hinted that fridges should be plugged directly to a wall socket and not to an extension board.
"Or it should be connected to a step down which is fastened to the main socket on the wall."
The fire officer touched on buildings with a single staircase which have no provisional emergency exit, mentioning that in cases of emergency, the situation can be disastrous.
To conclude, Mr. Thomas Goer urged citizens to memorize emergency service numbers and encouraged that fire disasters will be curbed if the people heed the given education.
