Deputy Regional Director of Public Health at the Central Regional Health Directorate, Dr. Kwabena Sarpong has rubbished the fact that Covid-19 is a thing of the past in the country so far as recording of cases is concern.
He said this following the official launch of the Central Regional Health Directorate's phase seven of its Covid-19 vaccination campaign slated for July 19 to July 23, 2023 in a media and stakeholders meeting to solicit support for citizenry within the region to get acquainted with the exercise to make themselves available.
Dr. Sarpong speaking in a media engagement declared the Central Region to have recorded about 100 Covid-19 cases this year, hence entreated natives of the region to get vaccinated to protect themselves and loved ones from contracting the deadly disease.
According to him, out of the region's 1.7 million eligible population enlisted to get vaccinated, have about 30% of the figure yet to take a single jab till date who the health directorate's vaccination exercise is targeted at.
He elaborated that 70% out the indicated number have once been vaccinated with 55% of the number fully vaccinated in the region as 50% of these fully vaccinated individuals are done having boosters.
He recounted that though the World Health Organization (WHO) has announced Covid-19 not to be a global health emergency, emphasized that the governing body didn't blacklist Ghana not to be recording Covid cases as others perceive it to be, thus the need for the general public to avail themselves in getting vaccinated.
