A retired educationist, Mr. Stephen Attuah-Oppong has commended the government for the implementation of the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education in the country.
He explained the only way the country could produce engineers and technicians for rapid development is the STEM education.
Mr Atuah Oppong, also the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Penniel Glory Preparatory and JHS in Sunyani was speaking in an interview with Sompa FM during the maiden edition of the school's speech and Prize giving day on Friday July 21.
He said, though the government is undertaking several educational reforms, there was the need to make the system a better one, saying, "the current educational system is characterized with several challenges."
He charged the government to plan for a blue print for the education system of the country to avoid any unplanned changes in policies that has the potential to disrupt the smooth delivery of lessons.
Mr Attuah-Oppong, however, called on the government to support private schools.
"We don't get any support from the government but private schools are playing a key and critical role therefore the government must assist us."
"Policy makers must not only consider the welfare of public schools but must look at the private schools as well", he emphasized.
Giving a brief background of the school he said, "Penniel Glory Preparatory and JHS started in September 2013 with only three pupils but can now boost of 900 students."
He indicated their vision was to nurture and educate their students in a God-fearing way and demonstrate their talents wherever they find themselves.
"There were turbulence at the beginning but God has really been good to us."
The speech and Prize giving day, according to the CEO, affords management the opportunity to reward exceptionally hardworking teachers, other staff and to also give the students the opportunity to showcase their talents to their parents.
