Mr. John Ansu Kumi, the Sunyani Municipal Chief Executive has presented boxes of mathematical sets and pens to the Municipal Directorate of Education for onward distribution to the candidates writing this year's Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the municipality.
According to the MCE, the Assembly with support from Hon Kwasi Ameyaw Cheremeh, the Member of Parliament for Sunyani East constituency procured the items to support and inspire the candidates to write the examination.
"Each of the candidates is expected to receive a mathematical set and a pen so that they can concentrate fully and write the exams", Mr Ansu Kumi told Sompa FM in Sunyani on the sidelines of a presentation ceremony in Sunyani.
He expressed disgust about examination malpractice which had characterized the BECE in the municipality and the Bono region as a whole, and called for collaboration between school heads, parents and stakeholders to bring the situation under control.
Mr Kumi said examination malpractices remained a serious offence that could truncate the education of the children and thereby ruin their future and appealed to teachers to redouble their efforts and adequately prepare the BECE candidates for the exams.
