The Executive Secretary of the National Identification Authority (NIA), Prof. Kenneth Agyemang Attafuah, paid a courtesy call to the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Hon. Henry Quartey, on Tuesday, 15th August 2023. During the visit, both parties discussed the achievements of the NIA and its plans for the future.
The Hon. Minister after his warm welcome commended the NIA for its professionalism, efficiency, and timely execution of its duties in the region. He specifically acknowledged the exceptional work of the NIA's Regional Officer, highlighting his dedication and professionalism that has contributed to the NIA's many successes in the Region.
In his presentation, Prof. Attafuah expressed his gratitude for the warm reception and extended his appreciation to the Minister for his continuous support of the NIA's endeavours. Prof. Attafuah provided an overview of NIA's progress, especially in the Greater Accra Region, outlining the achievements and milestones that have been reached under his leadership.
One of the key points of discussion was the request made by Prof. Attafuah for a suitable office space to establish a Foreigners Identification Management System (FIMS) registration centre. This request was met with enthusiasm by the Hon. Minister, who not only agreed to the proposition but also took a proactive step by showing the NIA team a vacant office space that could be designated for this purpose. This collaborative effort between the NIA and the Regional Minister reflects their commitment to expanding the reach and accessibility of the NIA's services in the region.
The discussions also touched on the importance of continuous cooperation between the NIA and government and/or private agencies to ensure the efficient implementation of national identification programs and the delivery of quality services to citizens and where necessary, export its expertise to the sub-region and beyond, to help countries like Morocco, Liberia and Somalia, all who have enlisted the support of the NIA to establish a robust National Identification System such as Ghana’s.
As the meeting came to a close, both Prof. Attafuah and Hon. Quartey expressed optimism about the ongoing partnership between the NIA and the Greater Accra Regional Ministry. The gathering served as a testament to the dedication of both parties in working together for the advancement of Ghana's identification systems and the facilitation of essential services to the citizens of Ghana.
The Executive Secretary's visit to the Greater Accra Regional Minister underscored NIA's commitment to collaboration and progress, further solidifying their efforts to enhance the nation's identity management system.
