Traders at the Mankessim Market in the Mfantseman Municipality in the Central Region have gnashed their teeth at their Member of Parliament, Hon. Ophelia Mensah Hayford over renovation of the Mankessim roundabout.
The project alleged to be single handedly carried out by the Member of Parliament, few weeks back saw a sod cut for its commencement but has attracted a huge opposition from market women at the area.
Findings conducted by Sompa News Eric Annan uncovers that the renovation project is estimated to cost over GH¢200,000 (2billion old currency).
The Mankessim roundabout having grown to become one of Ghana's busiest route for road users, appears the main path linking the country's capital town to the Western Region through to Côte d'Ivoire.
In an interview with traders at the Mankessim market vehemently kicked against the ideology to have the area's roundabout renovated at the expense of its ill-statured market which they described to pose a urge health risk to residents of Mankessim and its environs who periodically comes to shop there.
According to them, established that the renovation of the Mankessim roundabout is of no essence but should have the allocated money for the project be directed to the facelift of their filth engulfed market, otherwise have the tax they're forced to pay daily be use in ungrading the market.
However, the Municipal Chief Executive for the Constituency, Hon. Ike Lord Ennu allegedly seems equally unpleasant over the agitated project.
