A joint team from the Ghana Police Service and the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) in Assin Fosu have intercepted an articulated truck loaded with 250 bags of government's subsidized fertilizer meant for farmers.
The fertilizer which is made up of Cocoa Ahuoden, Cocoa Aduane, and Cocoa Nti were ostensibly being transported to neighboring country Côte d'Ivoire.
The three suspects, Seth Yeboah (Driver), Smaila Ahor (House Boy), and Iliassu Abubakar a driver with the Ghana National Ambulance Service in Assin North were arrested at Assin Juaso and were sent to the NIB head office in Accra to assist in investigation.
Interrogation revealed that it was the ambulance driver, Iliasu Abubakar who contracted the other two suspects to carry out the deed.
The Central Regional Chief Farmer, Nana Kwasi Fori in an interview with Sompa News indicated that the Assin Fosu NIB officials have been monitoring the movements of the suspects for some time now.
Hence on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, they had an intelligence that a truck with registration number GW-9930-W loaded with fertilizer has been stuck midway when hauling out of where the fertilizer was parked.
The Chief Farmer disclosed that the NIB officials after finding out the content of the vehicle were bags of fertilizer suspected it to be smuggled, thus called on the police to get the suspects arrested.
Nana Ofori, therefore warned all persons involved in this illegal act including farmers who connived with these miscreants to desist from the practice or risk facing the full rigours of the law which include arrest and prosecution.
He also encouraged the general public to report all suspected cases to the Ghana Police Service for the necessary action.
