35-year-old mother of three, Gifty Kwansah has attempted to kill herself by hanging after giving birth to a physically impaired child at Twifo Praso in the Twifo Atti-Morkwa District in the Central Region.

Information gathered by Sompa News Eric Annan has it that the traumatized woman often threatens to hang herself or drink a poisonous substance over the pains and embarrassment she mostly suffer from neighbors due to the condition of her 11-year-old physically challenged girl child.

Residents of Twifo Praso Zongo on Monday, August 21, 2023 around 3:30pm said to have heard the victim scream for help only to go and see her hanging with a sponge tied around her neck, hence quickly intervened by placing a chair under her feet to stand on and subsequently relieved her off the sponge.

Narrating her ordeal, Gifty Kwansah disclosed that her husband, Kojo Nyarkoh who she had her three children with and worked as an Accountant at the Twifo Praso Nursing and Midwifery Training College due to their girl child's condition has over five years now fled with one of their children, leaving her to her fate.

She expressed to always fell disheartening over the child's condition as neighbors of the community often mocks her for giving birth to a disabled individual, thus decided to kill herself and end everything.

Gifty Kwansah bemoaned that her lack of social amenities for the family, led to her first born getting pregnant at age 16 whiles getting prepared to write her Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) last year, and now takes care of her breastfeeding child, the grandchild and concurrently cater for the disabled child as her first born further her education.

She revealed life to be unbearable as she appears financially crippled to afford pampers for her sick child, talk more of providing for her family, therefore appeals to philanthropists and NGO's to offer her assistance.

Some residents who appealed for support, said she may again attempt suicide if a swift support is denied her as she continually threatens to end her life.

They said people are fond of treating the suicide victim unfairly by giving her just GH¢20 whenever she goes to sell their staffs due to her condition hence plead on helpers to come her aid.
