At least eight (8) mourners have died whiles two (2) remain unconscious with five (5) others sustaining various degrees of injury after a fatal vehicular accident occurred at Gomoa Potsin on the Kasoa-Winneba highway in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region.
The gory accident which occurred on Saturday, August 26, 2023 morning, involved a DAF Cargo Truck with registration number AS 8740-S heading towards Winneba and a Hyundai H100 with number GN 4475-19 in the opposite direction heading to Kasoa.
Eyewitnesses to the incident speaking to Sompa News Eric Annan identified the Hyundai H100 vehicle to have onboard, a fully loaded passengers clad in funeral attire.
According to their narration, a water tanker which was ahead of the Cargo Truck attempted to branch off the road, hence saw the Cargo Truck driver who was in hurry to overtake, veer into the lane of the Hyundai H100, resulting to a collision which on the spot claimed the lives of six females and two males.
The Winneba Fire Service Divisional Commander, DO2 Kwesi Hughes in confirmation of the incident, noted the accident to have occurred on the negligence of the DAF Cargo Truck driver who lacked patience.
He then called on drivers to slow down whenever plying the Kasoa-Winneba highway since the stretch has unfortunately been noted as an accident prone area.
Victims have been conveyed to the Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital for treatment while the body of the deceased persons have been deposited at Hospital’s Mortuary for autopsy.
