The National Identification Authority (NIA) has officially launched Phase 2 of its registration campaign, allowing all Ghanaians aged 15 years and older to register for the Ghana Card at no cost, provided they are first-time applicants.
This phase will be conducted at the NIA's 276 District Offices across the nation.
This development follows the successful completion of Phase 1, which was exclusively dedicated to registering first-time applicants who are Public Sector Workers on the Government of Ghana (GoG) Payroll.
Despite the initial plan for Phase 1 to span 10 days, the NIA has announced an unexpected truncation of the phase due to low turnout. Out of an estimated 250,000 - 260,000 eligible Public Sector Workers, only a meager 87 individuals availed themselves for registration during this phase.
In addition to Phase 2, the NIA has also resumed its Household and Institutional Registration services, which will be subject to associated charges starting today.
