The Bono Regional office of the Forestry Commission (FC) has impounded 21 heavy duty trucks carrying illegal lumber.
According to Mr Augustine Gyedu, the Bono Regional Manager of the FC, 11 out of the trucks which were impounded along the various forest routes in the region had no documents covering the lumber, saying his office had sought court order and would soon auction the lumber.
Addressing a news conference in Sunyani, Mr Gyedu said the commission had instituted a road enforcement outreach, and warned illegal chainsaw operators and loggers to desist from illegal logging saying culprits would be prosecuted.
Madam Justina Owusu-Banahene, the Bono Regional Minister highlighted the relevance of forest resources and appealed to everybody to help curb illegal logging in the region, and regretted as the food basket of the nation, the Bono region was gradually becoming a desert.
