The Teachers And Educational Workers' Union (TEWU) has charged the government of Ghana to make public schools available at every remote area in the country to aid students easily access and enjoy their right to education.
According to the union, pupils at various villages in the country often appear handicapped in accessing formal education from government schools, as they are compelled to trek miles away from home to attend school, with reason being that their community lack access to a public school unlike private schools which are seen littered all over.
Mr. Mark Denkyira Korankye, the General Secretary for TEWU made this statement at the union's 13th Quadrennial Central Regional Delegates Conference at the Cape Coast GNAT Hall themed, ''Fostering Partnership for Equitable Education Delivery In Ghana: The Role of Teachers and Educational Workers' Union''.
He bemoaned that TEWU feels much perturbed as government in its being to call for partnership in education delivery is reneging on most of its responsibilities, thereby shedding them on private school owners whose ulterior motive is to make profit at the expense of the poor who can't afford luxurious education for their wards.
Hence entreat government to take the led in Ghana's educational standard by making public schools available at every community for private schools to follow suit.
The Central Regional Chairman for TEWU, Mr. Francis Odoom lamented on the poor condition of service faced by members of the union at their respective place of work, particularly with that of their leave approval which is mostly trampled upon by their bosses, thus appeal to their General Secretary to as a matter of urgency level their grievances to the appropriate quarters for redress.
Mr. Emmanuel Essuman, the Central Regional Director of Education having graced the occasion, advised members of TEWU to always act on love and unity, as union members (administrators) often sits on the promotion and leave letters of colleagues over reasons best known to them at the blind side of the Education Service who at the end gets blamed for such misfortunes.
