Ghana's proceeds from the export of minerals increased from US$6.678 billion in 2019 to US$ 6.998 billion in 2020, Madam Justina Owusu-Banehene, the Bono Regional Minister has said.
The figure, she said constituted 8.0 per cent of total government revenue and grants in 2020 and added these revenues had been utilized to fund vital social services, infrastructure projects, and community development initiatives that had a direct impact on the lives of people.
Mad Owusu-Banahene disclosed this when addressing the opening session of a three-day dissemination workshop on the Ghana Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (GHEITI) 2020 Reports on the Mining and Oil and Gas sectors held at Fiapre, near Sunyani on Tuesday September 26.
The Ministry of Finance in collaboration with the GHEITI with support from the German Development Cooperation (GIZ) organised the workshop, attended by representatives of Municipal and District Assemblies, civil society organisation, Heads of Department and Agencies and Traditional leaders.
Mad Owusu-Banahene acknowledged the roles and contributions of industries in bolstering the nation's economic stability and the progress, indicating that lithium, as one of the critical minerals for the green transition, has been discovered in commercial quantities in other parts of the country.
