Vice Chancellor for the University of Cape Coast, Prof. Johnson Nyarko Boampong has announced that his outfit have retained its enviable position as the topmost ranked university in Ghana and West Africa for the third consecutive time according to the 2024 Times Higher Education World University Rankings.
The university in the latest rankings having been rated the topmost tertiary institution in Ghana and West Africa, appeared the seventh (7th) placed university in Africa. Thus the only West African university to emerge among the top 10 African category as it also maintained its position as one of the leading research-intensive universities globally.
This sterling performance by UCC was actualized after the Times University Ranking in its 2024 rating, introduced a new methodology of 3.0 which had the rating metrics more stringent for shortlisted universities to cover the five core missions set for them.
2,673 institutions across 108 countries in the 2024 Times Higher Education World University Rankings had their data submitted, out of which 1,904 universities qualified to be ranked.
Prof. Nyarko Boampong in conveying the university's flawlessly attained feet to the media at a stint press briefing held at the UCC New Council Chamber recounted that despite the sudden change in the rating methodology, the university has still emerged as a strong institution of higher learning in the 2024 rankings.
He added that the university will continually forge strategic partnerships in the areas of its core mandate to advance the course of its mission and vision in other to maintain its excellent achievement.
According to him, it is imperative that the university improve in other areas where it was ranked low. Particularly to its proportion of graduate students, and attract more research grants to increase its research income to create available resources for the provision of the state-of-the-art facilities for teaching and research.
The Vice Chancellor further urged the university's faculty and staff to conduct cutting-edge research that will lead to innovative output which can be commercialized and patented for societal benefits, as he promised that UCC will strive to improve or at least sustain its research output.
