The Member of Parliament for Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA) Constituency in the Central Region, Hon. Samuel Atta-Mills has benevolently supported the Ankaful Annex Prison with building material worth thousands of Ghana cedis to complete its commissioned Senior Officers office which has been under construction for 15 years now.
Items presented by the MP for the completion of the prison's Senior Officers office include; aluminium roofing sheets, net, nails, louvre blades and woods for roofing.
Hon. Samuel Atta-Mills in his kind gesture towards the Ankaful Annex Prison equally had the prison's inmate kitchen which usually get flooded whenever it rains re-roofed.
The philanthropic act by the MP got wide mentioning at the official send off ceremony of DDP Eric Ansah Ainoo, the immediate past Central Regional Prisons Commander who few weeks back got transferred to assume the position as the Ashanti Regional Prisons Commander.
The send off ceremony having come off at the Ankaful Main Prison Camp's church auditorium on Friday, October 13, 2023, subsequently witnessed the commissioning of the completed office, constructed for Senior Officers of the prison camp.
Hon. Samuel Atta-Mills who at the ceremony had his speech read on behalf of him by the former KEEA Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Ismail Zagoon Saeed, bemoaned the ratio of feeding offered inmates at various prison camps across the country, purged at Gh¢1.80pesewas per inmate.
Translating to 60 pesewas per every meal served to inmates who the MP described as strong men and women in detention to the State's prison facilities in the morning, afternoon, and evening.
He, however, urged the Ghanaian citizenry to add their voices to appeal to the government to put in pragmatic measures to increase the feeding ratio of these inmates, detained to go through reformation to suit the moral standards society so requires of them.
DDP Eric Ansah Ainoo, the outgoing Central Regional Prisons Commander on the inmates feeding ratio, having revealed it to be last increased eleven (11) years ago by the late President John Evans Atta-Mills from 60pesewas to GH¢1.80pesewas, appealed to government for increment as the amount compared to what it could afford years back, virtually does nothing facing the country's current economical challenges.
The Central Regional Prisons Public Relations Officer, Supt. Ziniel Gbecho Vincent with gratitude, shared light on a couple of supports the Ankaful Prisons have benefited from the KEEA MP, comprising of the area's street lightening among others. He further described the MP to know the needs of the Ankaful Prison, hence compelled not to list them as they so believe in the honourable member to come their aid whenever possible.
