The Central Region Installers Association has called on the Consumer Protection Agency (CPA) and the Minister of Communications to intervene in the rampant increment of DSTV and GOTV activation, since the occurrence has left hundreds of its members unemployed in the region.

The association which is largely dominated by youths recounted to have for a while been working for both DSTV and GOTV as installers, which used to feed them well, until the satellite TV provider's recent abrupt increment in decoder prices and subscription fees respectively.

This unfortunate situation according to the association which boost of over 1,000 membership in the region, has rendered majority of its members stranded over the fact that customers patronage has drastically decrease, leaving their business to collapse due to the agitated upon increment.

Chairman for the Central Region Installers Association, Alhassan Kassim addressing the media in a press conference in Cape Coast noted that members due to the situation at hand, having lost their source of income have equally had their capitals drained off.

Hence beseech Hon. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, the Communications Minister together with Mr. Kofi Capito, Director for CPA to step into the situation. Having had the introduction of DSTV and GOTV installation business indirectly employ over 10,000 Ghanaians.

Alhassan Kassim further revealed the disturbing situation to have led to most of their schooling members, who resorted to the installation business for the payment of their school and hostel fees drop out of school due to customers increasing dislike in patronizing them.

He again stressed out to government to as well exempt DSTV and GOTV of some of its over twenty-seven (27) taxes to help invigorate their collapsing installation business.

Some members of the association also remarked to Sompa News Eric Annan to have witnessed a shocking decline in sales for this year, with a little over 10 subscriptions done, compared to previous times which could have been over 1,000 activations for just a month. Thus call on the appropriate quarters to intervene in their worrying difficulty.
