The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Care Love Foundation for Ghana AIDS Commission, Madam Agatha Johna has criticized the Ghana Education Service (GES) to share in the blame over the country's rise in teenage pregnancy among pupils.
According to her, the worrying situation aforehand, having sparked several conversation, requires an immediate attention for redress, specifically on the GES adopted policy to curb teenage pregnancy.
She made this statement at a workshop held by the foundation in Cape Coast in the Central Region.
Speaking in an interview to Sompa News Eric Annan, she attributed most students who gets pregnant at an early age to the GES policy on sexual abstinence which has over the years failed to yield dividend in the fight against teenage pregnancy, particularly in the Central Region.
Hence beseech the GES to make a swift review on its teenage pregnancy policy, like teaching students on how to use condom in other to prevent being pregnant or contracting any sexually transmitted infection should they engage in premarital sex.
Madam Agatha further advised students to focus on their education rather than prioritizing sex during their school day, weather in the tertial, secondary or primary level to held reduce teenage pregnancy and the spread of HIV/AIDS.
Mr. William Kwaku Yeboah, the Central Regional Technical Coordinator for the AIDS Commission also questioned the public to be wary of HIV/AIDS, as the deadly desease is still in town and seems to increase among individuals.
