The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Council of Elders together with Constituency Executives and Patrons of Assin South in the Central Region have picked nomination form for their Member of Parliament who doubles as the Deputy Minister of Education, Hon. John Ntim Fordjour to contest yet again in the party's upcoming parliamentary primaries slated for January 20, 2024.
The ruling NPP party following its parliamentary primaries for constituencies with parliamentary representatives, opened nominations for interested aspirants from Wednesday, December 20 to Monday, December 25, 2023, after earlier holding parliamentary primaries for constituencies without parliamentary representatives (orphan constituencies) on December 2, 2023.
Hon. Ntim Fordjour concerning his nomination, had his form filed on the last day of filing at the constituency's party office at Assin Darmang as at 2:05pm.
The group which comprised of Electoral Area Coordinators, the constituency's Women's Wing, Party Patrons and members of the Council of Elders, raised an amount of GH¢1,750 to pay for the MP's filing fee instead of the usual GH¢3,000 as communicated by the party.
Reason being that the MP emerges a youth, and as the party seeks to have majority of youths in the elephant fraternity be encourage to wholly participant in the party's activities, reduced the filing fee for youths aspiring to be MP's for the party to achieve that goal.
Nana Duapong Saakwa, Chairman for the Assin South NPP Council of Elders after picking form for the MP, recounted the Minister to have executed lots of developmental projects in the constituency, coupled with his education and employment assistance offered constituents of the area.
As such, the need to have the MP enjoy enough time in parliament to have him carry out more of such projects in the constituency.
Women's Organizer for NPP in the Assin South Constituency, Gloria Owusu described Hon. Ntim Fordjour's works in the constituency as evidential in sectors like health, education and roads. For this reason, the constituency's women's wing thought it wise to contribute in the picking of his nomination form.
The MP following the trust and confidence shown in him by the constituency's Party Executives, Patrons and Council of Elders to pick him a form, thanked them and promised to do more in years ahead to make the party appealing and attractive enough to also make the constituency an enjoyable place for constituents to live.
According to Constituency Secretary of Assin South, Hon. John Ntim Fordjour as at the time of filing appeared the only aspirant to have picked nomination form in the constituency.
