The reigning Central Media Awards Journalist-of-the-Year who doubles as the Morning Show for Cape Coast-based Cape FM in the Central Region, David Kobbina Narh popularly known in the media circles as Ohene Kwame David has suffered a brutal attack by some macho men of the New Patriotic Party at the party's vetting of parliamentary aspirants at the Central Regional Coordinating Council (CRCC) in Cape Coast.
The incident which occured Thursday, January 4, 2024 around 6:45pm saw thugs numbering over twelve (12) identified to be boys of the Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East Constituency who doubles as the Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Hon. Mavis Hawa Koomson physically assault the journalist on the grounds that he has been insulting the MP on United Television (UTV).
The shock and extent of brutality launched on the journalist at a point got him unconscious, but for the timely intervention of his colleagues who together with him went to the grounds to cover the event, poured on him water to regain consciousness.
Narrating his ordeal as to what led to his assault, David Kobbina explained to be charging his mobile phone under the summer hat of the Regional Coordinating Council, where a heavily built guy in blue-strips top signalled to see him for a discussion halfway which the innocent journalist complied.
He noted that this heavily built guy who signalled him for a discussion in a situation of mistaken identity, later accused him of insulting Hon. Mavis Hawa Koomson during a UTV discussion which he vehemently denied knowledge of.
According to the journalist, in proving his innocence of the accusation and showing off his Cape FM identify card, later saw him attacked by thugs in Hawa Koomson T-Shirt together with other macho men whose numbers kept increasing due to the loud exchanges, slapping and beating him from all cylinders till he fell unconscious on the ground.
Some colleagues who were with the assaulted journalist at the time of the incident asserted to be together when these macho men in Hawa Koomson T-Shirt called the victim, thinking he was merely been asked of nothing serious after seeing their colleague show off his press card to this man in blue-strips, and the next thing they saw was their colleague been brutally abused under no provocation.
Eyewitnesses to the barbaric incident later called for justice for their colleague journalist, demanding for the apprehension of all in connection of the occurrence, as they bemoaned the series of brutal attacks journalists in the country have suffered over the years which has resulted to the death many along the line.
The victim has since visited the hospital for treatment and for an official medical report to log a police complain over the incident.
