Retired Professor of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) Agric Extension and Community Development, Prof. Edward Ntifo-Siaw has attributed that the destruction befalling Ghana's agricultural sector isn't a challenge solely caused by galamsey amid the menace the activity poses to the country's agric sector.
According to the Agric Scientist who currently works as an Agric Consultant, Ghana seems unconcern on the real happenings affecting the country's agric sector.
He established that the country's agric sector is under huge attack over the unquantified amount of fertilizers used on farm lands by farmers in the country.
Prof. Ntifo-Siaw in an interview with Sompa News Eric Annan relayed that the end result to most of these fertilizers leads to the destruction and unproductiveness of the land. Thus, the country's periodically encountered challenge in low harvest.
He again emphasized that farmers spraying on cash crops with hard chemicals equally turns to kill priceless crop and insects like mushrooms, snails, bees, worms, millipedes among others who plays a vital role in soil fertility.
The Professor bemoaned the fact that leadership in the country has left for such worrying practice which will in no time have farm lands in the nation infertile proceed to cost the state extra fund to curb the outcome caused by the practice in few years to come.
To this end, he made a clarion call to leadership in the country to probe and find lasting solution to the situation before things get out of hand.
