An 8-year-old girl who was thrown out of the house following witchcraft accusations by her relatives and some community members in Assin Fosu in the Assin Central Constituency in the Central Region has been rescued by a good samaritan.
The girl (name withheld) had spent 4 years of her life on the street feeding on leftover and dumped foods at restaurants and eateries.
She suffered abuse, discrimination, and maltreatment by people who described her as a mad person due to the unusual behaviour she displayed.
Ms. Betty Agyapong, the good samaritan who is the CEO of Holywood Lexus Suite Hotels at Assin Fosu and a Sister to Hon. Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, explained to have been moved by the situation of the girl for she believes all human beings are born free and equal and should be treated the same way.
To transform the life of the innocent girl, she sent her to one of the prominent private schools in Assin Fosu after paying her school fees and providing all the educational materials to help her stay in school.
Pledging to continue sponsoring the victim to the tertiary after successful completion of primary and secondary education, she indicated that every child is gifted with a unique set of talent and potential in which they can excel if given the opportunity.
Ms. Agyapong as part of her benevolence, presented school bags, footwears, and stationeries to less-privileged students at A.B. Valley Top Montessori and pledged GH¢20.000 to assist the school to boost the morale of the teachers.
Again, she said people suffering from witchcraft accusations and abuse must be protected by taking collective action to concretely address the pervasive inequalities and discrimination as she called on President Akufo-Addo to assent to the bill which has already been passed by Parliament.
Meanwhile, the Proprietress of A.B. Valley Top Montessori, Madam Barbara Quainoo who received the donation on behalf of the school expressed profound gratitude to Ms Betty Agyapong for her benevolence and motherly love.
