The leadership of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) is accusing the government for what they describe as absurd the astronomical increase of the verification fees charged their members seeking to travel abroad. According statement from the Nurses’ mother association, the fees has been increased from 550 to 3,000 cedis during the last few years adding that they see the plans to curtail efforts of their personnel seeking greener pastures abroad.
Speaking to SOMPA NEWS, Mr. Joseph W. Krampah, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the GRNMA said the government should rather put in measures to curtail migrations of the personnel from moving outside the country.
He indicated that the plans by the government to impose huge verification fees would not deter nurses from seeking greener pastures outside the country. Mr. Krampah however advised the government to focus on putting in suitable conditions for the nurses to remain in the country adding the government’s delay in seeking financial clearance in placing the nurses in their right job positions was indeed frustrating.
He warned that they would be compelled to seek redress in Parliament if the government fails to do the needful because they would ensure the verification prices were brought down as soon as possible.
