The Omanhene of Wenchi Traditional Area in the Bono region, Osagyefo Ampem Anye Amoampong Tabrako III has called on Ghanaians not to allow politics to divide us as the country prepares for the December 7 Presidential and Parliamentary elections.
Osagyefo Anye Amoampong Tabrako III made the call at his speech delivered during the occasion of the Ghana's 67th Independence Day celebration at the Wenchi jubilee park.
The Omanhene emphasized the importance of cherishing and safeguarding our democracy and the peace the country currently enjoys.
“This year is an election year I urge you to continue to be model citizens and engage your full citizenship for national development irrespective of who has political power”, he reiterated.
The Wenchi Manhene added that there is more that unites us than divide us.
“We must cherish our unity in diversity, let's act in the hospitality of our forefathers and not allow politicians to divide us on ethnic, religious and other divisive pranks”, Osagyefo Tabrako III added.
In his welcome address the Wenchi Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Alexander Obour Damoah said he was happy to be part of this historic occasion and most gracious for the opportunity to address the good people of Wenchi on behalf of the President Nana Akufo Addo.
“The independence of our nation Ghana was not won on a silver platter but through hard work, dedication, toils, blood and sweats of our fore bearers like, Sergeant Adjetey, Corporal Attipoe, Private Odartey, Kwame Nkrumah, Paa Grant, Edward Akufo Addo, Dr. Arko Agyei, William Ofori Atta, J.B. Danquah and Obitsebi Lamptey”, the MCE said.
According to him he is indebted to the Almighty God for yet another year for his kindness.
The MCE ceased the opportunity to commend the contingents of the various schools for the show of excellence in their display during the parade.
Touching on the team for the 67th Independence Day celebration “Our Democracy, Our Pride”, Hon. Obour Damoah said democracy is a system of governance that empowers the people by providing a platform for the free expression of diverse views and the protection of freedom and rights of individuals.
He added that Ghana after independence was engulfed with checkered regimes till the inception of democracy in the Fourth Republic.
“Ghana has an enviable history of successful political transitions, a vibrant Press Freedom, active Civil Society Organizations as compared to its sister countries like, Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, Guinea among others and we need to reflect on the achievements we have attained in these democratic processes” he stressed.
