Reports reaching SOMPA NEWS says a 78-year old ardent Catholic Church member at Asante Agona in the Asante Mampong Diocese of the Ashanti region has died during the usual Jesus crucifixion service held during every Good Friday service at an outskirt of the town.
According to our reporter Nana Sarpong, Madam Theresah Osei together with other church members including the Catholic Priest were going through the yearly ritual of going through the principal streets of the town with crosses of Jesus in their hands when they suddenly came into contact with a swarm of bees that attacked them mercilessly.
This was after a Catechist who had witnessed the events years after years warned the new priest not to change the usual rout because the surrounding bushy areas could serve as hideouts for bad insects which they did not oblige.
While most of the church members were running helter-skelter, the army of the bees all went to attack the Roman Father who was crying for help. The 78-year old Madam Theresah Osei, sensing danger for the Priest, went to his rescue by using her cloth to scatter the stubborn insects who in turn, turn their attention on her and beat her up mercilessly too.
“She subsequently fell on the ground, and her situation touched the hearts of some brave men in the community and they all ran to the scene. Madam Theresah Osei was then rushed to the Asamang government Hospital but despite the intervention of the medical personnel she gave up the ghost”, Nana Sarpong reported.
The late Madam Theresah Osei is a 78 year old widow and a mother of five (5) with over 50 years’ experience in the Catholic service, known by all and sundry in the Diocese. The Catholic Priest together with other victims are responding to treatment.
