The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has disclosed an ongoing inquiry into the operations of the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat since July 2023.
Recent revelations, particularly stemming from an exposé by the Fourth Estate, have brought the Scholarship Secretariat under public scrutiny.
Concerns have been raised regarding the allocation of scholarships to applicants from affluent backgrounds, contrary to the Secretariat's intended mission of supporting financially disadvantaged yet academically promising students.
In response to these developments, the Minority in Parliament has called for heightened scrutiny of the Scholarship Secretariat's activities.
Additionally, Mr Osman Ayariga, the deputy Youth Organiser of the National Democratic Congress, has petitioned the Office of the Special Prosecutor to investigate the Secretariat's operations.
In a confidential correspondence addressing Mr Ayariga's petition, the OSP confirmed an active investigation into the suspected corruption and corruption-related offenses within the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat.
The OSP stated that it commenced investigations into “suspected corruption and corruption-related offences of the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat circa July 2023”, adding: “The investigation is active and ongoing”.
