The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) in the Central Region as part of its scheduled activities in commemorating this year's International Firefighters' Day, have laid coin in remembrance of the service's fallen heroes in the Region.
The colorful event saw five (5) fire personnel namely, Ex CFO Valis Akyianu, Ex CFO William Brown-Acquaye, Ex CFO Edwin Ekow Blankson, DCFO Bernard Korsah, and ADOII Joseph Baidoo remembered in respect to their dedicated service rendered the GNFS.
2024 International Firefighters' Day (IFFD), celebrated on the theme, "The Contribution of the Firefighter to Safety, National Security and Sustainable Development," is to remember departed heroic fire personnel as well as those who lost their lives in line of duty to protect lives and properties.
ACFOI John Amarlai Amartey, the Central Regional Commander of the GNFS at the event entreated fellow fire officers to put in their all to provide excellent services in other to merit a remembrance tribute ceremony like the deceased fire personnel whose dedication have brought them this far.
Central Regional Deputy Commander of the Ghana Immigration Service, ACI George Teicku who on behalf of the Regional Immigration Commander graced the occassion, eulogized the tremendous work of the GNFS officers who often surrender their lives to battle death in rescue of lives and protection of properties.
Rev. Father ADOI Samuel Boateng Ameyaw, Chaplain of the Central Regional GNFS in an interview with Sompa TV's Eric Annan, described the work of a fireman to be of great blessing, in that the work isn't anything different from what Jesus Christ came on earth to do, which was to save perishing souls.
IFFD was formally established to be earmarked every May 4, after a proposal by an Australian firefighter, JJ Edmondson, following the sadden death of some five firefighters in Australia on December 2, 1998, upon their quest to battle a bushfire.
