Management of Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital has finally procured funds through the Ministry of Health to repair the Linac machine which has been supporting the facility in the treatment of Cancer patients.
The Linac machine has been lying idle all this while due to its phantom defective condition which has made the patients being referred to other referral facilities for treatment.
But speaking to SOMPA NEWS, the PRO of KATH Mr. Kwame Frimpong confirmed that the management has finally succeeded in securing the 140,000 dollar funds to invite the mother company’s repairers to make the machine active again.
Mr. Kwame Frimpong however called for a dialogue on the current state of procurement among health facilities since they normally need to be given special dispensation.
He told SOMPA NEWS that the current situation was becoming a burden on their operations on the health facilities in the country adding that a modification of the procurement law would help expedite their operations. He recounted that there were situations some of their machines developed some faults but had remained idle for several months due to the herculean procurement procedures the hospitals go through in securing funds for their rehabilitations.
He suggested, “I would call for immediate amendment in our procurement laws for health facilities in the country. You all know we render emergency services and if our machines are allowed to remain idle due to faults most of our patients would suffer immensely”.
Mr. Kwame Frimpong said he had no qualm with the former Health Minister Hon. Kwaku Agyeman Manu breaching procurement procedure in procuring COVID-19 equipment during the 2020 outbreak of the disease adding that hospitals’ services were demand driven to the extent that if they are delayed goes to the detriment of the patients.
