St James Seminary and Senior High School has emerged winners of the Bono regional 2024 Energy Commission Senior High School Renewable Energy Challenge.
St James Seminary and Senior High School defeated defending champions, Dormaa SHS (DORMASS) and floored Sunyani Senior High School (SUSEC) and Berekum SHS.
Twene Amanfo SHTS took the second position whilst Jinijini SHS came third.
This year's regional challenge was held at the ICT Centre at SUSEC on Wednesday June 12, 2024 on the theme "Application of renewal energy technologies in solving land degradation and water pollution."
Other participating Schools include; Isiqaamah SHS, Mansen SHS, Sacred Heart SHS and Sumaman SHS.
The challenge was opened to all Senior High and Technical Schools in Ghana. Participating Schools were expected to develop a project under the specified theme of this year.
The objectives of the challenge include;
1. To develop the research skills of Senior High Schools students and promote technological innovation in renewal energy and energy efficiency.
2. To instill in Students a passion for solving challenges using renewable energy, clean energy, energy efficiency and climate change initiatives or methods through innovative research.
3. To promote self confidence and encourage hard work through public recognition and rewards
4. To develope presentation skills of Senior High School students.
Senior Manager in-charge of Renewable Energy at Energy Commission, Mr Julius Nkansah-Nyarko speaking to participating schools revealed each School would be given transportation allowance based on how far they traveled from and a Ghc1000 to cover the cost of their projects.
