Health workers have been stationed at all examination centers in the Obuasi East district of the Ashanti Region
According to the District director of education Kwabena Owusu Nketiah who spoke with the media at a BECE tour, he said the move is intended to provide first aid services to the 1790 candidates expected to write the 2024 basic education certificate examination in the district.
He stated that this coupled with other interventions put in place by the education directorate, Obuasi East district assembly and AngloGold Ashanti are enough to prepare the students for the exams.
"As I speak with you now with the support of our stakeholders, we have organized four mocks for the candidates to adequately prep them for the exams. We are optimistic that, this has helped them to familiarize themselves with how the exams could go".
Significantly, he said the directorate will also provide food for the invigilators throughout the one-week exams period. This Mr. Nketiah believed is to support the teachers who are given added responsibilities during BECE.
On the purpose of the tour, the Chief Executive of the Obuasi East District Hon. Faustina Amissah said they were at the centers to encourage the candidates to produce their best and in trust their abilities.
She said the measures put in place by the education directorate and the Assembly ahead of the examinations are enough to help them come out with flying colours.
The DCE again stated that a key motivation factor for the students is the realization that when they pass, they can access free senior high school or free TVET education. She said TVET education in particular is important in shaping the lives of those who would want to acquire practical skills and hands on experience in technical and vocational training.
The Member of Parliament for the Obuasi East constituency Dr. Patrick Boakye Yiadom said the government has made it easier for children to transition from Junior High School through to Senior High School through the Free Senior High School adding that, that should be a motivation for the students to pass their exams.
He said the measures put in place by himself, the Assembly and the education directorate will provide the catalyst needed for the students to pass the Exams.
A total of 1790 candidates are expected to sit for the exams. This includes 852 males and 938 females. Eight (8) centers have however been designated for the exams.
