The immediate past Chairman of the Oguaa Fetu Afahye planning committee, Mr. Perry Mensah has rubbished the public perception of him misappropriating funds of the festival celebrated by the people of Cape Coast in the Central Region.
He said this at a press conference held at the Emintzimadze Palace to render account of every fund mobilized under the tenure of his administration as Chairman of the Oguaa Fetu Afahye planning committee from 2018-2023, within which four (4) festivals were held (specifically in 2018, 2019, 2022 & 2023).
Mr. Perry observed that his committee upon their appointment to steer the affairs of the Oguaa Fetu Afahye in 2018, only came to inherit a bank loan debt of GH¢30,000 from the Oguaa Traditional Council which through the committee's striving force did well to settle and above all left a cash in hand of GH¢155,450.80 to the Traditional Council.
Addressing the media at the presser, he admonished that since 2019, himself and the committee has consistently rendered account on the incurred expenses of every festival in retrospect at the launching ceremony of the next edition of the festival each year.
He noted to have resorted to holding a press conference this time around to render account of his committee's performance since it's enactment because he wasn't offered an invite to the launch of the 2024 Oguaa Fetu Afahye.
According to him, he has squandered no one's money under his tenure as planning committee Chairman of the Oguaa Fetu Afahye as propagated by some media houses in Cape Coast and entreated whoever may feel concern of his account to visit the office of the Emintzimadze Palace's registrar to satisfy his curiousity.
He finally highlighted the ongoing construction of a royal reception area (conference room) at the Emintzimadze Palace further to the fixing of a metal gate at the palace from its previous wooden structure as part of the legacy projects facilitated under his committee's tenure.
The Oguaa Fetu Afahye, celebrated on the first Saturday in the month of September every year is earmarked to keep the town clean and to prevent any other epidemic befalling the people as witnessed in the past.
The festival is one thrilling ceremony which annually attract foreigners from all over the world due to its imbibed customs and tradition of the people of Cape Coast.
