Ghana's Deputy Minister of Education who doubles as Member of Parliament for Assin South Constituency in the Central Region, Hon. John Ntim Fordjour has urged the country to be resolute and adaptable in its objective towards the rapidly evolving technological world.
He emphasized that in the face of challenges such as rapid technological change, limited resources and growing competitions, Ghana needs to remain adaptable and forward thinking.
The Minister made this assertion at the 33th anniversary celebration of Eguafo-Abrem Senior High School in the Central Region which was earmarked on the theme, "33 Years of Secondary Education: Harnessing the Resources of All Stakeholders in Promoting Academic Excellence."
In an address delivered on behalf of the Minister by the Central Regional Director of Education, Mr. Emmanuel Essuman, recounted that the world present day students endure to enter is vastly different from that of previous times.
Consequently, students need not to be equipped only with knowledge, but with the skills to think critically, adopt to change, and innovate to ensure that they compete not only locally but also globally.
Ms. Vida Adi Cudjoe, Headmistress of Eguafo-Abrem Senior High School uncovered that like other secondary institutions in the country, her school equally has its first share of infrastructural challenges, since Eguafo-Abrem SHS has experienced many stalled projects over the years.
She highlighted a number of uncompleted projects in the school which includes a double two storey building boys dormitory, a single storey girls dormitory, dinning hall, a kitchen complex, and a P.A. staff bungalow.
The Headmistress disclosed that in the 33 years of the school's life span, it has no administration block, assembly hall, no science lab, home economics block, visual arts studio, staff's bungalow, I.C.T lab, infirmary, and Agric Science lab, having had neither a sports field or a school bus for official activities and beseeched the government, philanthropists, parents, politicians and old students to come and assist the school.
National Chairman for the Eguafo-Abrem SHS Old Students Association, Benjamin Cobbinah after a couple of donations made to the school following the anniversary, implored other old students to avail themselves with their contributions in the school's subsequent anniversaries.
