The Bono regional coordinator of the District Road Improvement Program (DRIP), Mr Theophilus Asomah says about 217-kilometre road has been fixed under the programme in the Bono region in the last two months.
He explained, the programme has benefitted the region in diverse ways leading to the reshaping of a 47- kilometre road in the Sunyani West municipality.
The DRIP is designed to empower Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) with the necessary resources and equipment to rehabilitate and maintain roads within their areas. This initiative aligns with the government’s commitment to decentralization, providing local authorities with the tools to effect meaningful change.
The Bono regional minister in August this year handed over 99 road construction equipment to 12 municipal and district assemblies (MDAs) under the DRIP on behalf of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
The equipment included 12 tipper trucks, 12 graders, 12 black holes, 12 water tankers, 12 rollers, 6-wheel loaders, 3 bulldozers, 3 low beds, and 24 concrete mixers.
The minister encouraged stakeholders to ensure the equipment's long lifespan through training, proper storage, monitoring, regular maintenance, cleanliness, and record-keeping.
Speaking in an interview with Sompa FM in Sunyani on Monday November 11, Mr Asomah explained, the machines have been delivered to all the beneficiary communities in the region and have been put to use.
The coordinator acknowledged that many district roads in the region remain in poor condition, impeding economic activities and development.
The machines, which are in good condition according to Mr Asomah, has no problem with fuel.
He stated, “the government have provided for fuel for the next 6-months, adding that the company has given government two years warranty for the maintenance of the machines at no cost.”
