Residents of Dantano, a farming community in the Asunafo South District of the Ahafo Region have undergone free health screening to know their various health conditions.
A team of medical and health personnel from the Hwidiem St Elizabeth Catholic Hospital in the Asutifi South District of the region conducted the screening exercise sponsored by Mr Moses Antwi, a native of the community and a leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the region.
The health outreach exercise benefited more than 300 residents including children, the aged and some young people and they were screened for Ear, Nose, Throat (EN&T), as well as eye related conditions.
It further created an opportunity for the beneficiaries to check their sugar and blood levels and body mass index. The beneficiaries who were detected having serious medical conditions were referred to health facilities for medical attention.
In an interview with the media, Mrs Gertrude Achiaa, an EN&T specialist and the team lead, advised everybody to do regular medical check-ups and tried to visit nearest health facilities whenever they fell sick.
She said self-medication was not good for human health, and commended the sponsor for the exercise, expressing the hope that it would be extended to benefit other communities in the district.
Mr Antwi, also a former Second Vice Chairman of the China branch of the NPP and former Information Communication Coordinator later told the GNA that the screening exercise was necessary to enhance the health status of the residents.
He said it was also in line with political party campaign activities he was conducting to canvass votes for the Vice President Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the 2024 flagbearer of the NPP and the Party's Parliamentary Candidate (PC), Mr Frank Adusei Poku.
