The Conference of Regional Imams of Ghana, has congratulated the President- elect John Dramani Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for its 'decisive majority in parliament".
It said the conference was confident that Mr Mahama would work hard to justify the trust the nation had reposed in him and the NDC in building a better Ghana for all,
In a statement issued and signed by Alhaji Suallah Abdallah Quandah, the Acting General Secretary of the Conference and made available to Sompa FM in Sunyani said "your knowledge and in-depth understanding of the contemporary challenges confronting the nation will position you and the NDC well in addressing the needs of Ghanaians".
"We pray that you being a unifier, consultative, listening personality, humility and maturity in dealing with all manner of people as well as decisiveness in taking difficult, but necessary decisions for the common good will achieve your vision for the nation", it stated.
"Kindly extend our congratulations to the NDC for the decisive majority in Parliament and we pray that they be magnanimous in victory and help the nation to heal from the intolerance and extreme stance of partisan electoral politicking we have gone through", the statement added.
"Our differences are natural and neutral and should not be turned into divisions and antagonism. The idea of the opposition having their say and the government side having their way must be guided by altruism and moving the nation together through shared growth and development", the statement indicated.
It indicated that "parliament is representing the people of Ghana and not some of the people of Ghana", and called on Ghanaians to appreciate the fact that "we prayed for peaceful elections and to elect a President and Legislature".
