The Ghana Federation of Disability Organization has cautioned People with Disabilities (PwDs) to quit alms-begging on the street and accessing the Disability Funds to live decent lives.
Instead, Madam Sirina Mahamadu, the National Vice President of the Federation who gave the advice, urged the PwDs to apply for the Disability Fund to find something worth doing and thereby live decent and dignified lives.
In an interview with the media in Sunyani, she entreated the PwDs to apply for the fund through the Federation and other registered and recognised disability groups and engage in viable economic activities to improve the socio-economic livelihoods.
She explained that the Disability Fund was set up to support the PwDs to engage in employable skills training, entrepreneur or petty trading, saying with the fund, there was no need for PwDs to remain on the street for alms-begging.
"So we are urging all the PwDs to apply for the fund through the established protocols", Mad Mahamadu stated, and called on the various Coordinating Directors and the Social Welfare Department at the various Assemblies to also support applicants to access the funds too.
She also urged the various assemblies to help monitor and ensure that the funds were released on time and also help in monitoring in ensuring that the beneficiaries use the funds for the intended purposes.
