Mr John Gyamli Yehoah Assamah, the Secretary of the Dormaa Central Municipal branch of the Ghana Federation of Disability Organisation (GFD) has called on President John Dramani Mahama to create jobs for People with Disabilities (PwDs)
He said the Federation anticipated that the President would establish the Women's Bank and recruit more PwDs to work in the Bank
"The Bank must recruit at least five percent of Pwds nationwide", Mr Asuamah told the media in an interview at Dormaa-Ahenkro, worrying that mostly women with forms of disabilities were more vulnerable in society.
"They face a lot of discrimination in the labour market, and so prioritizing their inclusiveness in the employment sector is essentially necessary, he stated.
Mr Asuamah said the establishment of the Bank ought to be guided by a policy direction that targeted the interest of the PwDs as well, and wished that many PwDs secured gainful employment.
He said the Disability fund was insufficient to tackle the needs of the growing disability population in the country, and therefore urged the government to create permanent work for the PwDs.
The appointments of the various Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies must also prioritise and consider the PwDs too, he added. Mr Isaac Afari, a PwD, in another interview expressed concern about the unfriendly nature of public and private buildings, making it difficult for the PwDs to access some essential services in the Dormaa Municipality.
