In a bold move to strengthen transparency and accountability within the government, Raphael Godlove Ahenu, a prominent anti-corruption crusader, has called on President John Dramani Mahama to take decisive action against public officials who fail to declare their assets. Ahenu's appeal comes amid growing concerns about corruption and the need for stringent measures to ensure integrity in public office.
Speaking with the media in Sunyani, Ahenu emphasized the importance of asset declaration as a critical tool in the fight against corruption. He argued that public officials who refuse to comply with asset declaration requirements undermine public trust and compromise the government's commitment to transparency.
"Asset declaration is not just a legal obligation; it is a moral duty for anyone entrusted with public office" Ahenu stated, saying "failure to declare assets raises questions about the integrity and intentions of public officials. It is imperative that President Mahama revokes the appointment of any appointee who does not adhere to this fundamental requirement".
The anti-corruption advocate warned that non-compliance could lead to a culture of impunity, where public officials feel emboldened to engage in corrupt practices without fear of repercussions. He urged President Mahama to demonstrate leadership by holding his appointees accountable and setting a precedent for future administrations.
"Revoking the appointments of non-compliant officials will send a strong message that corruption and lack of transparency will not be tolerated," Ahenu added. "It will also reassure the public that the government is committed to upholding the highest standards of integrity."
