Deputy Director of Operations at the Presidency, Mustapha Gbande, has issued a strong warning that former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta will face justice, even in death, if he refuses to return to Ghana.
Gbande emphasised that all necessary measures would be taken to bring Ofori-Atta back to the country and recover any stolen public funds.
His comments follow the official declaration of Ofori-Atta as a suspect in four high-profile corruption investigations by the Office of the Special Prosecutor(OSP) on February 12, 2025.
These investigations include allegations related to the National Cathedral project, Strategic Mobilization Limited (SML), and two other ongoing cases.
At a press briefing on February 12, Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng declared Ken Ofori-Atta a wanted person, urging him to return to Ghana immediately to face questioning. Agyebeng warned that failure to comply would result in legal measures to enforce his return.
"If Ken Ofori-Atta should refuse to come, every measure will be deployed to bring him down to this country. If for any reason he passes on, his dead body will be prosecuted and jailed, and every stolen money belonging to the people of Ghana will be retrieved. It is not just an agenda of government but a mandate," Agyebeng said.
Meanwhile, in an interview with Joy News on Monday, February 17, Mustapha Gbande reaffirmed his commitment to integrity.
"I fear to steal what is for the public, I will never steal what is for the public. If for any reason I come into contact with a decision to harm the people of this country, I will rather be poor, so that Ghanaians will respect me for it," he stated.
Gbande added that he holds the respect of the people in higher regard than personal wealth and would never compromise his values for personal gain.
